The partners involved in the 'Making
Tracks' project commissioned detailed research into the market
for nature-based tourism in the south of Scotland in order to
inform the development of products under the project grant scheme.
The research report, produced in June 2002, draws from a mixture
of desk-based studies, focus group activity and subsequent analysis
and contains a number of revealing insights into the visitor
profile for nature based tourism in the region, their preferences
and expectations as well as making recommendations for the future
promotion of nature-based tourism.
The results of the research were disseminated at a half-day
conference in Peebles in October 2002 where delegates were
able to discuss the research findings and, through workshops,
to consider a number of themes associated with the development
and marketing of nature based tourism products.
